Yesterday, those involved in the construction project celebrated the progress of the “Urbanes Zentrum Züricher Straße” project with Third Mayor Dr. Nasser Ahmed at a topping-out ceremony. In the Großreuth district near Schweinau, the structural work on the five buildings is now nearly complete.
WBG Nürnberg Beteiligungs GmbH is developing a total of 181 apartments, commercial space, and a daycare center with four preschool groups and two nursery groups at the corner of Züricher Straße and Gerhard-Hauptmann-Straße. 99 of the apartments are publicly subsidized (under the EOF I, EOF II, and EOF III categories) and will create additional affordable housing in southwest Nuremberg.
“This is good news for affordable housing in our city. The Urban Center Züricher Straße is creating a neighborhood that intelligently combines housing, local amenities, mobility, and social infrastructure. The mix of publicly subsidized and privately financed apartments in particular is an important contribution to social urban development,” explains Dr. Nasser Ahmed, Third Mayor, responsible for housing, construction, and urban development.

Despite a long and harsh winter, the project remains on schedule and within budget. The first windows have been installed, the buildings are currently being weatherproofed, and work on insulation and plaster facades is beginning in parallel. In addition, the installation of building services and interior drywall work are underway. From today’s perspective, completion is expected to take place in phases through the end of 2027.
“This construction progress demonstrates the level of commitment and professionalism with which the work is being carried out here. The past winter months, in particular, were challenging. I am all the more pleased that everyone involved has worked together to ensure the project is proceeding according to plan,” emphasizes Ralf Schekira, Managing Director of wbg Nürnberg. Sustainability remains a central component of the project. The buildings will feature green facades, photovoltaic systems, and a rainwater management system with retention tanks for irrigating the green spaces. The concept is complemented by bicycle parking spaces and pre-installation for e-mobility.
